  • Middle East: The Senate blocked Democrats’ seventh attempt to halt the war in Iran.

  • Redistricting: The governor of South Carolina plans to call for a special session focused on redrawing the state’s congressional maps.

  • New York: Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of John F. Kennedy, is running for Congress in Manhattan. But his erratic behavior has raised questions about if he’s ready for office.

  • Murder: South Carolina’s top court overturned the convictions against Alex Murdaugh, who was found guilty of murdering his wife and one of his sons.


Two things you didn’t really need to know but now do:

  • A graduation speaker at the University of Central Florida called A.I. “the next industrial revolution.” The crowd, which was full of humanities students, booed. Watch the video.

  • Student government leaders at New York University are objecting to the school’s graduation speaker, Jonathan Haidt, calling the choice “deeply unsettling.” Haidt, a social psychologist and professor, has stoked controversy for arguing that young people are “coddled.”


I associate potato salad with summertime barbecues. This year, perhaps I’ll swap potatoes for chickpeas to make Yotam Ottolenghi’s recipe, which is topped with a cucumber and roast lemon salsa.
