I grew up in Washington, D.C., so I know a thing or two about the cherry blossoms, including how to avoid all the tourists during peak bloom. On Roosevelt Island in New York, locals have formed a group called the Petal Protectors. They work to keep tourists and “springstagrammers” from damaging the trees.
