After the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, introduced by the BJP-led Union government, was defeated in the Lok Sabha, DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin said the South stood united, made its voice heard and democracy prevailed.
The Bill aimed to increase the strength of the Lok Sabha through delimitation enabling implementation of the 33% reservation for women in the House. It required 352 votes to pass with a two-thirds majority with 528 MPs voting but got only 298.
