The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday (April 28, 2026) said the Jammu and Kashmir government’s move to drop Urdu as an eligibility for lower and middle-rung posts of the Revenue department was “an attack on culture and identity”.

Speaking during a street protest in Srinagar, PDP leader Iltija Mufti, who is also the daughter of party president Mehbooba Mufti, said: “Urdu is our weapon to express ourselves and a common unifier. However, the removal of Urdu from Revenue services is an attack on our culture, religion and identity,” said Ms. Mufti.
