Despite a clear anti-Left wave sweeping across the State, Thrissur stood out as a green island for the Left Democratic Front (LDF), which retained nine of the 13 Assembly constituencies in the district. The United Democratic Front (UDF), riding the broader momentum, managed to secure four seats — Chalakudy, Irinjalakuda, Kodungallur and Thrissur.

The LDF’s victories came from Manalur, Guruvayur, Kaipamangalam, Nattika, Wadakkanchery, Puthukkad, Chelakkara, Ollur and Kunnamkulam, underlining the front’s entrenched organisational strength in the district. Yet, the results were far from comfortable. In constituencies like Manalur and Guruvayur, the UDF came agonisingly close, losing by the closest of margins in tightly fought contests.
