A four-tier security arrangement will be in place at vote counting centres in Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai districts on May 4 (Monday) where sealed electronic voting machines (EVMs), along with voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) units, have been kept in strong rooms.

District revenue officials said routine inspections at strong rooms where sealed EVMs and VVPAT machines, which were guarded by police personnel round the clock, have been conducted on daily basis by District Election Officer (DEO) in Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai districts. “Assigned election staff were directed to present at counting centres around 5.30 a.m on May 4. Adequate parking of vehicles for election staff and police has also been arranged. A control room with a helpline number (18004257004) is also set up at DEO office to report any election related incidents,” Vellore DEO Ms. Subulaxmi told The Hindu.
