Bengaluru weather LIVE: Heavy rains and hailstorms throw life out of gear in city

Heavy rain on Wednesday (April 29) evening left parts of Bannerghatta Road in South Bengaluru waterlogged, worsening an already deteriorated stretch and causing inconvenience to commuters.

Residents of Vijaya Bank Layout said the situation has been aggravated by incomplete water pipeline work carried out nearly a month ago. “Authorities dug up the stretch for pipeline work but are yet to restore the road despite repeated complaints to GBA,” said Venkatesh Shetty, a local resident.

The affected stretch, located near IIM Bangalore and major hospitals such as Apollo and Fortis, has become increasingly difficult to navigate due to poor road conditions.

In March, the Bengaluru South City Corporation (BSCC) proposed the development of the 10-km Bannerghatta Road stretch from Dairy Circle to NICE Road in its budget for this year. However, residents say the current condition reflects years of neglect and repeated utility works.

“The road is in a deteriorated state, with broken surfaces, uneven footpaths and poorly restored patches making several sections nearly non-motorable,” said Lavanya B, a resident of Bilekahalli.
