The Tamil Nadu Assembly election is set to be held on April 23, 2026, with multiple political players in the fray: the ruling DMK and its alliance partners, the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), and debutante Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, led by actor C. Joseph Vijay. Counting of votes will take place on May 4.

Amid this contest, issues faced by the people will take centre stage, including civic and infrastructural concerns, women’s safety, education, employment, and more. For instance, parking and traffic congestion continue to dominate the election discourse in urban constituencies, particularly in Chennai. In rural and largely agrarian constituencies, meanwhile, there have been demands for better procurement prices and irrigation infrastructure.
