Two years ago, when a team of experts from Southern Railway and State Highways inspected the existing manned railway level crossing (LC 81) in Vaniyambadi town, for construction of road over bridge (ROB), residents were hopeful that their ordeal of waiting at the level crossing will end soon.
Months have gone by, but motorists patiently wait under the scorching sun at the level crossing to go between the eastern and western parts of this riverside town. “Local issues matter during polls. We have been struggling to get a new bridge to replace the railway level crossing for over two decades. Candidates of major political parties gave us assurances on the bridge, but our ordeal remains unchanged,” said C. Sethuraman, a resident.
