Nearly a day after the devastating U.S. war on Iran reached a ceasefire, President Donald Trump’s post on Truth Social on Thursday (April 9, 2026), issuing a fresh ‘threat’ to Greenland, has reignited a debate on U.S. takeover of the Arctic territory. Significantly, Mr. Trump’s heated post arrived merely two hours of his meeting with NATO’s secretary general Mark Rutte.

Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social that, “NATO WASN’T THERE WHEN WE NEEDED THEM, AND THEY WON’T BE THERE IF WE NEED THEM AGAIN. REMEMBER GREENLAND, THAT BIG, POORLY RUN, PIECE OF ICE!!! President DJT”.
