European leaders welcomed the two-week ceasefire to the U.S.-Israel war on Iran, calling for a long-term negotiated settlement and the inclusion of Lebanon in the two-week ceasefire. The conflict had further weakened transatlantic ties, with Europe refusing to join U.S. President Donald Trump in offensive operations in Iran.
Ahead of a trip to West Asia on Wednesday (April 8, 2026), British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed the ceasefire and said countries had to “turn it into a lasting agreement and re-open the Strait of Hormuz”.
