A mild earthquake of magnitude 4.8 struck Hailakandi district in southern Assam on Tuesday afternoon (April 7, 2026). According to official data by the National Center for Seismology, the quake occurred at 2:18 p.m. (IST) at a shallow depth of 5 km, with its epicentre located at latitude 24.823 and longitude 92.634.
