UPSC Recruitment 2026 – Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must fulfill all eligibility conditions as on the closing date of online application i.e. 12-06-2026 (1800 Hrs). Mere possession of minimum essential qualifications does not entitle candidates to be called for interview – UPSC may shortlist candidates based on desirable qualifications, higher educational qualifications, higher experience, or by holding a Recruitment Test. All candidates in Government service (permanent/temporary, other than casual/adhoc/daily wages) must submit a declaration that they have informed their Head of Office/Department in writing that they have applied.

UPSC Recruitment 2026 – Age Limit

Age limits are post-specific and are calculated as on the closing date for submission of online recruitment application i.e. 12-06-2026. The age limits shown in the advertisement are the normal limits for UR/EWS candidates. Standard age relaxations are applicable for SC/ST (5 years), OBC (3 years), and PwBD (10 years) for vacancies reserved/suitable for them. OBC/SC/ST/PwBD candidates applying against unreserved posts are not entitled to age relaxation.

UPSC Recruitment 2026 – Application Fee

Application fee is to be paid online only and is non-refundable. Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstance nor can it be held in reserve for any other examination or selection. Applications without the prescribed fee will be summarily rejected without any representation being entertained.

UPSC Recruitment 2026 – Selection Process

Selection will be made by Recruitment by Selection – through Interview or Recruitment Test followed by Interview as decided by UPSC on a post-by-post basis. In the event of a large number of applications, UPSC will adopt shortlisting criteria including desirable qualifications, higher educational qualifications, higher experience, experience before/after essential qualification, or by conducting a Recruitment Test. The summoning of candidates for interview conveys no assurance of selection. Appointment orders will be issued by the respective Ministry.

Stage 1 – Application Scrutiny and Shortlisting

All applications are scrutinized for eligibility. If applications are large in number, UPSC may shortlist based on: (a) Desirable Qualifications; (b) higher educational qualifications; (c) higher relevant experience; (d) counting experience before/after essential qualification; (e) invoking experience even where not mentioned as EQ/DQ; or (f) by holding a Recruitment Test. Candidates should mention all qualifications and experience in the relevant field over and above the minimum qualifications.

Stage 2 – Recruitment Test (RT) followed by Interview (wherever applicable)

If selection is made by Recruitment Test followed by Interview, candidates must achieve minimum suitability at both stages. Minimum interview marks: UR – 50, OBC – 45, SC/ST/PH – 40 (out of 100 total interview marks). Minimum marks for Recruitment Test shall be decided by UPSC on a case-by-case basis.

Stage 3 – Medical Examination

Selected candidates must be in sound bodily health and must undergo medical examination and satisfy medical authority as required by the Government.
