How do actors get into character? We asked actors from six Tony-nominated shows. Nathan Lane, who plays Willy Loman in “Death of a Salesman,” thinks about where his character has been that day and why he’s coming home. He also turns up one collar of his rain coat to look “a little disheveled.”

See how other actors get into character.

  • China: President Trump and China’s leader, Xi Jinping, emphasized stability as their high-stakes summit in Beijing ended. The two leaders did not announce any clear resolutions on Taiwan or major issues like Iran. Read the latest news.

  • Abortion: The Supreme Court said that mifepristone, a widely used abortion medication, could continue to be sent to patients by mail.

  • Middle East: Saudi Arabia and the U.A.E. carried out retaliatory strikes on Iran, U.S. officials said. It was the first known time that the two countries have directly attacked Iran.

  • On campus: The Justice Department accused Yale School of Medicine of violating anti-discrimination laws over its admission policies, which the government said illegally favored Black and Hispanic applicants.

  • Hantavirus: U.S. health officials are monitoring 16 additional people for symptoms of hantavirus, bringing the new total to 41.

Two things you didn’t really need to know but now do:

  • I was so tired of my dating apps recently that I deleted them. Endless swiping, as I know well, is not fun, and it hasn’t led to many dates for me. But one app is killing the swipe feature entirely. Maybe that will help me out?

  • I’m bummed that the 50th season of “Survivor” is almost over, even though I’m still mad about the most recent episode. The show has seen many characters and twists over the last two decades, and there’s one archetype that has shaped it: the villain. Parvati Shallow is forever an icon to me.

The Subway Series between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets turns 30 today. To celebrate, The Athletic went back in time to build a team out of the best series performers.

See the team.

My colleagues at NYT Cooking put together a list of summer recipes, and I’m already starving. I can’t wait to make that kale Caesar pasta salad. Happy (almost) summer!
