Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma submitted his resignation to Governor, paving the way for the formation of a new government, said the officials on Wednesday (May 6, 2026).

Earlier, Assam’s Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel handed over the State Assembly poll results to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. The Governor will now start the process to form the new government.
