A total of 286 vacancies have been announced for the post of Civil Judge Junior Division and Judicial Magistrate First Class. The vacancies are distributed across various categories as per Maharashtra Government reservation rules. Reservation for social and educational backward classes is subject to the final decision of pending court cases before the Hon’ble High Court of Bombay. The number of vacancies is provisional and subject to change as per government instructions.
MPSC Civil Judge Junior Division Recruitment 2026 – Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must fulfill all eligibility conditions as on the last date of application. Only those candidates who fulfill all the prescribed conditions are eligible to apply. Admission at all stages is provisional and subject to eligibility verification. The reservation benefit is available only to candidates who are permanent residents of Maharashtra. The benefit under various reservation categories is not available to candidates who are not permanent residents of Maharashtra. A candidate claiming reservation must have a valid certificate issued by the competent authority.
Economically weaker sections (SEBC) candidates claiming age relaxation and marks relaxation must submit the required Non-Creamy Layer Certificate and the caste certificate in the prescribed format as per Government Resolution dated 27 February 2024 and Government Circular dated 28 June 2024 and 05 July 2024.

The minimum age is 21 years and maximum age varies by candidate category (35 years for UR Advocates, 40 years for Reserved Advocates; 45 years for UR Ministerial Staff, 50 years for Reserved Ministerial Staff) as on 30th April 2026. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved category candidates as per Maharashtra Government rules. SEBC candidates are eligible for age relaxation as per the Hon’ble High Court order dated 19 December 2019 and 13 March 2026. Economically weaker section candidates who do not fall in SEBC are not eligible for any benefits/relaxation as per High Court order dated 19 December 2019 and 13 March 2026.

The selection process for MPSC Civil Judge Junior Division & Judicial Magistrate First Class Recruitment 2026 consists of 3 (three) successive stages — Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Interview/Personality Test. Candidates who qualify the Preliminary Examination will be called for the Main Examination. Candidates qualifying the Main Examination will be called for the Interview/Personality Test. The final merit list will be prepared based on combined performance in the Main Examination and Interview. Candidates who qualify the Preliminary Examination will be intimated about the Main Examination date separately by the Commission.

How to Apply for MPSC Civil Judge Junior Division Recruitment 2026
Applications must be submitted online only through the MPSC Online Portal at https://mpsconline.gov.in. Hard copy applications will not be accepted under any circumstances. The online portal will be active from 01-05-2026 (14:00 hrs) to 21-05-2026 (23:59 hrs). Candidates who have previously registered on the MPSC portal can directly apply using their existing login credentials. New users must first register on the portal before applying.
Examination fee can be paid online till 21-05-2026 (23:59 hrs), or via SBI Bank Challan (generated online) at the bank branch till 25-05-2026. Candidates should ensure all details are correctly filled before submitting the application. Candidates claiming reservation must produce a valid caste/category certificate issued by the competent authority. SEBC candidates must produce the Non-Creamy Layer Certificate and caste certificate in the prescribed format as per government resolutions dated 28 June 2024 and 05 July 2024. For the financial year 2026-27, the non-creamy layer certificate must be submitted for the year 2026-2027.

Important Instructions for MPSC Civil Judge Junior Division Recruitment 2026 Candidates

- Candidates must ensure they fulfill all eligibility conditions on the last date of application; admission at all stages is provisional and subject to final verification.
- Reservation benefit under social and educational backward classes is subject to the final judgment of pending cases before the Hon’ble High Court of Bombay (Writ Petition No. 3468/2024 and related cases).
- SEBC reservation is also subject to the pending Writ Petition No. 30/2024 (Shri Bhausaheb Bhujangrao Pawar v. State of Maharashtra) before the High Court of Bombay.
- Economically weaker section candidates not falling in the SEBC category are not eligible for any benefits/relaxations as per High Court orders dated 19 December 2019 and 13 March 2026.
- For the year 2026-2027, candidates must submit a certificate confirming they do not fall in the advanced/progressive pay scale cut-off (as per Government Corrigendum dated 09 March 2023 for Other Backward Welfare Department).
- The reservation benefit is available only to permanent residents of Maharashtra; non-residents will be considered under the unreserved/open category.
- Practice as an Advocate is reckoned from the date of provisional enrollment/registration with the State Bar Council.
