Mango farmers of Muthalamada found relief this season despite a lower yield. Strong market demand and higher prices for the Muthalamada mangoes across India helped offset their concerns, easing the impact of reduced production.

Even though the yield was low, it was still better than last year. Farmers said they were worried at the start of the season when irregular rain threatened the flowers. But the rain did not destroy their hopes, though some pests and thrips caused damage. In the end, most of the 500-plus farmers in Muthalamada, both big and small, made some profit because there was early demand for their mangoes in north Indian markets.
